I have nine NRA instructor certifications and teach thirteen of their courses. I am certified by the Maryland State Police as an instructor to teach both the CCW - Wear and Carry (HGP) and the Handgun Qualification License (HQL).
I served under the US Army Special Operations Command for over twenty years. During most of that time, I was a weapons expert training foreign and US personnel in weapons, tactics, and military skills. I also instructed at a military academy for the host country to qualify them as a member of NATO. During my career, I participated in deployments, peacekeeping operations, and combat missions throughout the world. I was tasked to provide security for Prince Michael of Kent, Clare Short, the Secretary of State for International Development, and several general-grade officers.
I started as a High-Power rifle competitor shooting various matches, including Divison, State, and the Nationals at Camp Perry. Shot as a Marksman Training Unit (MTU) team member, winning the 1st Army Team Matches. Later I would shoot as a Pistol Team Captian for my unit at the 18th Airborne Corps Matches achieving the highest individual score in the Patton Match.
As a licensed firearms dealer, I was often asked to repair a customer's firearm. After many successful projects, I developed an interest to the point that I attended Montgomery Community College's gunsmithing program. I also would train under the supervision of a Master Machinist, learning the precise operation of common machine tools.
I started teaching adult education classes in 2013; I also developed my own courses during that time. I took a break from teaching to obtain a Master's Degree and have since taught at colleges and universities. I am currently qualified to teach twenty-six higher education classes. When teaching students about firearms and marksmanship, I incorporate the skills I have to make the experience for the student enjoyable and precise during the learning process.
